Treatment for Chronic Pain
Knowing why it hurts will help you heal.
When we say chronic pain, we mean any pain that has persisted longer than expected. This can be an annoying niggle that just hasn't improved over time, or a series of serious symptoms that have been heavily treated medically without sufficient improvement.
Sources of chronic pain may be from many things, but we see patients with chronic pain after:
trauma, like a car accident
sports related repetitive injuries
work related repetitive strains and stresses
stress, and other psychological conditions
degenerative conditions like arthritis
the source may be unknown, you just have persistent pain!
Treatments vary when it comes to chronic pain. Physiotherapists at Trail Physio have experience treating chronic pain and have learned from many formal pain courses, that the key treatment components involve:
"explaining pain": how does your pain even work?
clearing up misconceptions about the sources of pain
educating you on what actually makes a positive difference to chronic pain
working with, rather than against, the other members of your treatment team
taking a holistic approach to the physical, psychological, and social stressors on your pains
tailoring a well explained exercise and manual therapy approach to your needs
